Chia Berry Recipe
Nutritionist recommended, this recipe is both mentally and physically healing.
1. Blend 1 cup of raspberries and blueberries (1/2 cup each), 1 tbsp of flaxseed, 1/2 cup of organic kefir, and unsweetened almond milk to desired thickness.
2. Pour into a bowl or glass and top with sliced bananas, cinnamon, 1 tbsp of chia seeds, and 1/2 cup of cooked whole grain oats.
Kefir is an excellent source of probiotics, which are live organisms found in the digestive system that promote digestion (unless you have a lactose intolerance). Kefir can also have a relaxing effect, due to the amino acid, Tryptophan. Kefir is also high in calcium, protein, B vitamins, and phosophorus!
Flax seed and chia seeds deliver omega-3 fatty acids. Research has found that cultures that eat foods with high levels of omega-3s have lower levels of depression. Some studies also show that fish oil (which is high in omega-3s) can reduce the symptoms of ADHD in some children and improve their mental skills.
